Express and Star 6th October 2014 - Rosie, another case of sheer neglect.

30th September 2014 - Shocking Neglect

On the evening of 30th September, two lads walking their dogs were walking along the canal towpath in Black Lake, West Bromwich. They heard a rustle in long grass, thinking it could be a cat, they put their dogs on lead. The noise came again, Luke went to investigate, but what lay before him, sent shivers down his spine. Lay there was an emaciated dog, emaciated being an understatement. The lads scooped up this dog, carrying him almost 2 miles to their home before calling us for help.

When the first photo came through, even we were totally shocked, a skeleton covered in skin.

We requested the help of local rescue The Animal House, they immediately went to collect him from the finder. Getting him back to base, they couldnt understand, firstly how was this dog still alive? Who was responsible? Would he make it?

Below are just a few images of the dog now named Harvey........weighing a pathetic 11.7kg, pressure sores almost down to the bone, urine burned pads that actually expose tendons, his coat compacted in faeces.

For the latest updates please visit the rescues Facebook page

If you recognise this dog, please contact us in the strictest confidence on 07988 433187.

We were made aware of Duke the Akita in March 2013, shocked by his condition we immediately sourced help from one of the local animal rescues.

The Animal House Rescue based in Bartley Green went to his aid and his journey to recovery commenced.

Months of costly vets treatment of baths, creams, antibiotics before Duke was finally ready for adoption. In Sept 2013 he moved into his new forever home.

Earlier this month, it was brought to our attention that an appeal had been launched on Facebook by a person unknown and they were asking for donations to help a dog called Richo, only the photos being used were actually of Duke. We surged ahead reporting the group/profile to Facebook, Paypal, Gofundme and the authorities. The rescue responsible for Duke have also notified the authorities. We now wait for an outcome.

Dog World Magazine, on 30th April have covered the story of Duke and the scam appeal. We wish to thank them for highlighting the every growing scams appearing on Facebook.

Just a day or so old, their mother dead, the elderly owner had no choice but seek help to ensure these pups stood a fighting chance.

Thanks again to Wild Acre Rescue, Cradley Heath for agreeing to take in these pups to hand rear. The feeding regime is hard work, with two hour feeds and careful monitoring.

Thankfully resident rescue dog Charlie has taken over the pee & poop department and doing a brilliant job.

Wild Acre Rescue go to the end of the earth for any animal in need, they need YOUR support to continue the work they do. So heres how you can help:-

Foster homes are desperately needed.

Items that can be donated and used in their fundraising activities

Monetary donations are needed to help with their extremely high vets costs.

Please however small, support your local rescues!

Missing Poppys Journey

16 year old Poppy wandered off from her home in Pershore Road, Birmingham on 16th March, little did she realise that her journey would result in her travelling over 100 miles. The people who found her outside of her home believing she was an abandoned dog, picked her up and drove away. Unfortunately, they didnt follow the law and failed to report her to the local authority dog wardens. After the finder posted on Facebook an appeal to find Poppy a new home, friends began searching the internet and came across us. Late Monday evening the finder called us to tell us they had found her. Upon asking for an address for owner to collect, we were shocked to discover that Poppy had been taken all the way to Finchley Park in London!

We spoke to Karen, owner of Poppy, to tell her the news. But there was a problem, Karen had no transport. We immediately circulated an appeal for transport to get little Poppy home. We were so happy when Debbie Matthews of Bruce Forsythes Vets Get Scanning offered to collect Poppy from the finder, hold overnight and then bring Poppy back to Birmingham to her family.

Yesterday, Poppy arrived home and was estatic to be reunited with Karen and her family.

K9 Search UK send our sincere thanks to Debbie Matthews & Gizmo the yorkie for all of your help in reuniting Poppy!

At this point we wish to remind everyone that if a dog is found on a public highway, it is a stray and must be reported to the local authority dog warden for the area in which the dog was found.

6th March 2014, saw the arrival of 3, 13 week old puppies. Signed over by their owners for placement into rescue. A little on the skinny side but absolutely gorgeous. Once again Wild Acre Rescue stepped up and offered them placements. They will need to gain a little weight, be vaccinated and microchipped before going to new homes. If you would like to adopt one of these stunning pups please contact Angie on 07714442263.

Can anyone explain, why no-one saw, or heard the cries of such a wonderfully natured, yet neglected girl?

This had to be one of the most pathetic sights we have witnessed. Sweet and so loving, this beauty with urine and faeces stained coat, the smell was stomach churning. She stood well but had a strange gait as though she stood on her ankles and not her paws. Where has this little one been living? Had no one seen her or did they and ignored her problems. We are very fortunate to have the one of the best local rescues to assist us in situations like. She was transferred to Wild Acre Rescue in Cradley Heath. After seeking vets treatment it is now believed that little one, no more than 10 months of age, has been confined in a small space which has led to a deformity of her front paws. Wild Acre Rescue are hopeful that with the right diet and exercise she can make a recovery.

Wild Acre Rescue are a superb rescue and help us with many neglect cases, costing them £1000's of pounds in vets bills. We are asking people to show support for them, visit their charity shop in Cradley Heath opposite Tescos, donate via paypal etc. They are also desperate for foster homes, so if you have the space and the time, please contact Angie on 07714442263 to discuss.

"We have seen it all", the famous words of most rescuers, but theres always another sad case that proves us all wrong!

We received a urgent call on Tuesday 4th March from a local housing officer asking for our help with a Yorkshire Terrier. We were told that the dog was slightly matted and dirty. But when Mr T arrived with us, we were all totally gobsmacked with what we saw, take a look at the slideshow below and see it for yourselves. Just how much pain and discomfort had he endured and for how long? We called for the help of The Animal House Rescue based in Bartley Green. Lin and her team came to collect Mr T and took him back to the rescue. Almost 3 hours later Mr T was minus his severely matted coat and this revealed a very skinny boy. So the neglect was more than lack of grooming, he had also been starved. Thankfully, he is doing really well and eating the rescue out of house and home. Anyone interested in offering Mr T a home should contact the rescue direct on 0121 475 8729.

Bred, unwanted and surrendered

On 1st March we were contacted by the PDSA at Aston after two unwanted puppies were surrendered into their care by their owner. Apart from being a little underweight, they were both lively happy little ones that just needed a rescue to take care of them. As always the Wild Acre Rescue team came to their aid and with the help of K9 transporter Mich, they were collected and taken to their foster mum Karen.

If you can offer a home to either of these pups please contact Angie on 07714442263

Birmingham City Council - New Dog Control Orders Commence 1st March 2014

Following a full public consultation, Birmingham City Council is to go ahead with implementing Dog Control Orders under the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005. These new orders will be introduced on 1 March 2014 and are been seen as measures to tackle issues caused by irresponsible dog owners who fail to control or clean up after their pets. Offences will be dealt with by a Fixed Penalty Notice and fine of £80.

Dog owners need to be aware of the new laws as follows;

1. The Fouling of Land by Dogs Order 2014 – it will be an offence for a person in charge of a dog to fail to remove faeces forthwith from any land to which the public have access. This Order will replace and extend the existing controls under the Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act 1996.

2. The Dogs on Leads Order 2014 – it will be an offence for a person in charge of a dog to fail to ensure that a dog is kept on a lead at all times on all public roads, adjoining footways and verges.

• The Dogs Exclusion Order 2014 – it will be an offence for a person in charge of a dog to permit the dog to enter into or remain in any of the following areas:

• any clearly demarcated children’s play area, and

• School land.

3. The Dogs on Leads by Direction Order 2014 – it will be an offence for a person in charge of a dog to fail to put that dog on a lead when directed to do so by an authorised officer on any land to which the public have access and is open to the air.

4. The Dogs (specified Maximum) Order 2014 – it will be an offence for a person to take more than four dogs onto open land in Birmingham.

Please note there are exemptions for assistance dogs.

Please sign and share this petition if you think all dogs picked up as strays should be scanned for a microchip, thank you.

The picture of the dog on the left has been picked up as a stray, logged and photographed and shared online by CheshirewestandChester.gov.uk

The picture of the dog on the right is Louie, who has been missing from Kings Norton, Birmingham, since 25th September 2012. https://www.facebook.com/Missinglouie?ref=ts&fref=ts

This found dog is a possible match to Louie but owner of Louie has been told that the stray dog was NOT scanned for a microchip and has since been claimed.

Message from owner, Rach Handley:- "Awful isn't it? We've emailed and phoned and awaiting some kind of clarification of how they're sure that was the owner!"

Dangers of Buying Dogs Via Free Ad Websites

How can you be sure that the dogs offered for sale on the endless array of Free Ad websites are not stolen?

Nine months ago, a Pug was purchased via a Facebook free ad page. The were extremely happy with their new dog, some months on they decided to get their dog a microchip. The dog was scanned and what happened next, turned the familys world upside down. The dog was already microchipped and had been reported just a few days before they had purchased it. It ended with the dog being returned to its legal owner.

So we are advising people to be extremely careful when purchasing dogs, well any pet via the internet Free Ad pages and websites.

September 2013 - Stolen Saffy REUNITED

How did Saffy reach the West Midlands, well she certainly didnt walk!

Stolen from Lancashire in August 2013, Saffy was picked up by a Birmingham Dog Warden after being found wandering the streets.

Thank god for the microchip, we were able to contact her owners straight away. They were extremely shocked that Saffy was almost 100 hundred miles from home. As it was fairly late on in the day, the owner wasnt able to reach Birmingham before the kennels closed. So the next day they travelled down and was finally reunited with Saffy.

Update from owners, Saffy has settled in well back home with no problems.

September 2013 - Tilly Reunited!

Tilly disappeared from her home in Great Bridge, her owner was in a mad panic as she was due to go on holiday just 2 days later. The streets were scoured but there were no signs of Tilly anywhere. Where was she?

We received a call from a person who found Tilly, but he had passed it on to another person. That person claimed he would take her to a vets for scanning, well he didnt, he took her home with him and didnt report it and they attempted to give us the run around!

With just hours to spare, Tillys owner contemplating cancelling her holiday, we went into action with Sandwell dog warden Boots Lowden. Within 2 hours we had Tilly safely on the wardens van and on route home.

Warning to finders, you CAN be prosecuted for theft by finding if you do not report a found dog to the local authority.
